A relationship can only end up in two ways: going for a higher level of commitment through marriage or deciding to break up. Either way, both outcomes require a lot emotional preparation from both parties. When someone breaks up with you, you feel desolate and unwanted. No matter how hard you try to forget that person, you always wake up to the same daunting morning realizing that you want him back. There are many ways to rebuild a broken relationship. Such process involves personal assessment, bridging and finally recommitment.

Assessment

A lot of times, broken couples make the mistake of reconciling way too quickly after a huge fight. Every human needs a breather once in a while. After a breakup, it is always best to give you and your former partner time to think things through. After an emotional rollercoaster, it is not healthy to plunge back into a series of misunderstanding, which can possibly even ruin your chances of at least becoming friends. Giving yourself the time to think will help you assess yourself and the relationship you had. Learning the root cause of the problem will also help you determine if rebuilding your relationship will even be worth it.

Bridging

Once you have gone through the stage of self-assessment, now is the time to bridge that gap between you and your ex partner. Find an opportunity when you two could talk. As much as possible, avoid being too confrontational. Being short and straight to the point is always the best way to go. Make sure that all your unaired thoughts and undisclosed feelings are left in the open. When your former partner is the one talking, make it a point to understand and listen. Finding a middle ground will help bridge your relationship back and bring it to greater heights.

Recommitment

This is probably the hardest part in order to rebuild a broken relationship. Recommitment can only be achieved if you learn to forgive and forget. Accept each other’s imperfections and grow from the experience. Keeping in mind that you have recommitted yourself to a relationship with your former partner, you must also make it a point to do your part in making things right and better this time around.
